Ever since childhood, making things was important and fulfilling for me. I was first influenced growing up among family members who worked with their hands. My mother and grandmothers engaged in various textile related arts. When I was at the University of WI Milwaukee, I took an art class with Professor Ruth Gao who introduced her students to several important visiting fiber artists. They had a huge impact on me and that experience gave me interest and direction.
I like to experiment with color, texture and form. The variations in color and pattern are a product of the slow, intricate, process of construction. It takes many months to complete a piece. Small details in nature are subconsciously an influence. The intimate, personal, handmade nature of my work is what I hope people respond to.
